[ Circa 1880 ] Oblong Folio, [37 x29 cm] Fine Album Complete with two photographed title pages and FIFTY of Sommer's Albumen Photographs mounted on card, images 25 x 20 cm. Original red grained blind-stamped cloth, gilt title. [lightly soiled] over red leather gilt titled spine, marbled end papers. [Giorgio Sommer was born in Frankfurt [1834] and became one of Europe s most important and prolific photographers of the 19th century. Active from 1857 to 1888, he produced of images of archeological ruins, landscapes, art objects and portraits. 1856 moved his business to Naples and later (1866) formed a partnership with fellow German photographer Edmund Behles (also known as Edmondo Behles) who owned a studio in Rome. April 1872, he documented a very large eruption of Mount Vesuvius in a series of stunning photographs .Excellent Copy. Seller Inventory # 1349
