Frontis portrait of author ("aged twelve years"), 7.5 x 4.5", full polished calf, 140pp, covers a bit worn, extremities lightly bumped and chipping, spine a bit dry, red leather spine label lightly chipping along edges, pp toned and foxed, but still a nicely preserved piece. "First American, from the Belfast Edition". Fifteen years after this book was published, the author was appointed as astronomer at the Armagh Observatory; in 1862 he received a Royal Medal for his catalogue of 5345 stars; he also invented the Robinson Anemometer, used to measure wind speed.
