The authors of this book present a new and more effective method for the plastic design of structural elements of complex shape. Based on limit design theorems, this method uses statically admissable stress fields which give safe collapse loads and an estimate of the shape of the element in question. To simplify the procedure of constructing complex stress systems, the authors have computed the parameters necessary for important stress sub-fields. There are also tables and diagrams for the arrangement of sub-fields into complex two- or three-dimensional stress systems for plastic design. Numerous examples illustrate the applications, supported by experimental test elements. The text has been designed for mechanical and civil engineers, machine and tool designers in industry and applied mechanicians, physicists and specialists in plasticity theory and its applications.
