The LCME Piano Handbook 2026: Grade 1 is the official multi-composer piano repertoire collection for beginner pianists preparing for an LCME Grade 1 examination. Carefully selected and edited by leading UK piano educators, it presents accessible piano solo repertoire that supports musical growth while encouraging enjoyable, consistent practice. It is equally suitable for lessons, independent learning, structured exam preparation, and performance practice.
Inside the book are nine carefully chosen piano pieces together with one study, all presented in standard notation for piano solo. Helpful practice tips accompany the music to encourage secure learning and thoughtful interpretation. Free technical work, sight-reading, and aural materials are also available from the official LCME website, providing valuable support for a well-rounded approach to Grade 1 preparation.
The varied selection introduces learners to music from different composers and styles, helping to build essential skills such as rhythm, coordination, articulation, phrasing, and expressive playing. Working through a diverse programme can keep practice engaging while gradually expanding musical understanding and performance confidence. Teachers, students, and parents will appreciate having an official collection that aligns with the 2026 examination syllabus while remaining enjoyable beyond the exam itself.
