- Book 3 of 12: BEYOND LIMITS Consciousness, Mind and Reality
WHAT IS CONSCIOUSNESS?
For centuries, humanity has asked one of the deepest questions ever imagined: how does subjective experience emerge from the physical universe? How can thoughts, memories, emotions, and the simple feeling of being alive arise from the activity of the brain?
Despite extraordinary advances in neuroscience, physics, artificial intelligence, and philosophy of mind, consciousness remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of our time.
The Persistence of Consciousness is an in-depth exploration of this mystery through the ideas, discoveries, and debates that have shaped modern thinking about the nature of mind.
Drawing from decades of scientific research, philosophical analysis, and the works of some of the most influential thinkers in the field—including Giulio Tononi, Roger Penrose, Stuart Hameroff, Christof Koch, David Chalmers, and other leading voices—this book examines the competing theories that attempt to explain what consciousness truly is.
Is consciousness an emergent property of complex biological systems?
Is it fundamentally connected to information itself?
Could quantum processes play a role in the creation of experience?
Does the mind represent only the activity of the brain, or does consciousness reveal deeper aspects of reality that science has not yet fully understood?
Rather than defending a single doctrine, this book offers something more valuable: a careful comparative investigation into the arguments, evidence, strengths, and limitations of the major theories surrounding consciousness.
The author guides the reader through one of the most fascinating intellectual landscapes of our time, connecting neuroscience, philosophy, physics, and the profound human questions that arise when we confront awareness, identity, free will, and mortality.
Through a clear and thoughtful examination of the greatest minds studying consciousness today, The Persistence of Consciousness invites readers to explore the boundary between matter and experience, between the measurable world and the mystery of subjective existence.
For anyone fascinated by the mind, the brain, artificial intelligence, philosophy, the nature of reality, or the possibility that consciousness may be more complex than we currently understand, this book offers a comprehensive journey into one of the last great frontiers of human knowledge.
Because before we can understand the universe around us, we must first confront the mystery of the universe within us.
This book is for curious minds who have ever wondered about the deeper questions behind existence: What makes us aware? What is the nature of the self? Could consciousness be more than a product of the brain? Could science one day reveal a connection between mind, matter, and the fundamental structure of reality?
Whether you are interested in neuroscience, philosophy of mind, quantum theories of consciousness, artificial intelligence, meditation, spiritual exploration, near-death experiences, or simply the mystery of being alive, this book offers an accessible path into the greatest questions surrounding human awareness.
Designed for both beginners and experienced readers, it bridges scientific research and philosophical reflection without requiring previous knowledge. Complex theories are presented through clear explanations, comparisons, and thoughtful analysis, allowing every reader to follow the fascinating debate about the origins and future of consciousness.
For those questioning the limits of human knowledge, and those fascinated by the possibility that consciousness may represent one of the deepest mysteries of the universe.
Consciousness is not merely something we study. It is the very thing through which all study becomes possible.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone.
