1st American edition, 1942. A Very Good copy in a Good- dust jacket. 8vo., 392 pp., bound in publishers red cloth with red & black dust jacket, $3.50. Jacket has overall wear and soiling with rubbing along tips, edges and spine; spine faded. End papers tanned, paper lightly age toned. Text appears unmarked. Dust jacket now protected in mylar sleeve. So many books have been written about Nazi Germany that another one must be extra good to arouse interest or elicit praise. The present work of Mr. Deuel, who served several years as Berlin correspondent of the Chicago Daily News, needs no apology for it is one of the very best. Objective, factual, utterly impersonal -- it builds up a picture of life under Hitler so terrifying, yet so convincing, that it should become one of our primary sources for knowledge of the Third Reich. - Foreign Affairs review.
