Signed by author and illustrator below limited edition statement. Flyleaves browned, but otherwise a fine copy. Illustrated throughout by linocuts by William Kermode, including vignettes. Decorated by owl colophon. The signed limited edition of Williamson's novel of the Western Front. Illustrated by the linocuts of Australian born artist, William Kermode (1895-1959), who had originally requested Williamson to provide captions for his war illustrations; instead, the author wrote a whole book around them: 'The result' however, was a most effective combination with Williamson's raw evocation of the soldier's lot perfectly complemented by the rough style and subtle humour of Kermode's images' (Matthews, p.68).
