"I was the boy with no hope. I was the young man lost in chaos. I was the man fighting every day just to survive. And now I am here - standing tall, free, and happy. If I can do it, so can you."
This is the unflinching, true account of a life lived in the shadows, and the incredible journey into the light. From the Past To the Present takes you deep inside the world of Phil Ragless - from a childhood marked by instability and pain, through decades of addiction, crime, trauma, and mental health battles, to the moment of realisation that changed his life forever.
For years, Phil wore a mask. To the world, he was wild, reckless, and fearless - the life of the party or the dangerous rebel. But inside, he was fighting a brutal war against anxiety, depression, shame, and loneliness. He ran from his feelings, numbed his pain, and pushed everyone away, convinced that he was broken beyond repair and destined to be "ragged" and empty forever.
But rock bottom became his solid ground. In this book, Phil shares how he left the city behind, found peace in the silence of the countryside, and began the slow, painful, but beautiful work of rebuilding himself from the inside out. He reveals how he learned to understand his mind, heal his scars, and rewrite the very meaning of his name: Ragless - without fear, without chains, without shame.
As he grew stronger, Phil found powerful new ways to express the truth he had carried for so long. He takes you behind the scenes of his work in radio, podcasts, and live speaking events, and shows how poetry and music became the platforms that finally set his voice free - turning his private pain into a public message of hope for others walking the same hard road.
You will read about:
More than just a memoir, this book is a lifeline. It is a message to anyone who feels stuck, broken, or like their past is too heavy to carry. Phil proves that your mistakes do not define you, your history is not your destiny, and the light is always waiting on the other side of the dark.
You are stronger than you know. You are worth more than you think. And your life is far from over.
