Item description from seller

Because they are nocturnal or crepuscular, and birdwatchers tend to be diurnal, owls have an air of mystery about them. They also pose extreme identification problems, and indeed a number of species are difficultto separate by plumgaealone; this problem is compounded by the fact that many of them adopt several different morphs. Owls fully describes every known species of owl, as well as presenting the latest evidence on owl taxonomy based on DNA analysis and vocalisation. Because voice is vital in owl identificationa great deal of emphasis is placed on it. This book will help to remove some of the mystery from owl identification. The authoritative text is complemented by 64 color plates executed by Friedhelm Weick who has a wide experience of raptor illustration. The authors recognise 212 species of owls, all of which are treated in the book, and the plates depict every species and distinct subspecies, as well as different colour morphs and juvenile plumages. Sussex. Pica Press. 462 pp., 64 color plates, num. distribution maps, hardback gr. 8 [17.7 x 25 cm] [with dust jacket] [like new].…
