When Japanese planes fly over their grazing land, Pa fires the homestead and he, Ma and their two daughters, Mary and Helen, decamp to town. In Wyndham citizens are being shipped out, the meatworks have closed for fear of bombing, and Dan McAlpine, a drver, is kicking his heels in frustration with over 1,000 head of cattle and no ready market. Insisting that bullocks are more important than bullets, Dan recruits a team to drive the herd 1,600 miles south-east to Queensland. The Parsons readily join him, along with Sinbad, Corky, Les, Charley, Nipper and Jacky. First published in 1946, this is a classic story of the Australian outback - and of the women and men who survive its perils - strength and humour intact. Paperback. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
