About the Author: Sandra K. Cook is a veteran homeschooling mom. Sandra, a.k.a. Sandy, never planned to homeschool her sons, but inadequate public education provisioning led her to begin homeschooling her sons midway through elementary school. Her boys were smart, but had dyslexia and ADHD. Sandy homeschooled her boys from elementary school through high school, after which her sons each entered college ranked as sophomores with high GPAs, on scholarships, and well prepared for life. Because of her need to help her sons, Sandy has completed Orton-Gillingham Multisensory training (for teaching reading to children with dyslexia), completed Georgia Advocacy Office's Parent Leadership Support Project Advocacy training, Georgia Charter School Association's "Organization and Concept Development" Training, is a Petitioner for American Sign Language for Georgia Students, a Lifetime Member of Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honor Society, and an educational change advocate. While homeschooling, Sandy also earned her Master's Degree in Instructional Design and Technology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Sandy now provides resources, information, and support for parents homeschooling children with learning disabilities. For recreation, Sandy enjoys photography, bowling, kayaking, writing, and walking with God.
