Item description from seller

A very scarce and comprehensive work, giving an overview of history from ancient times to the 19th century, for the use of schools. In the publisher's original blind-stamped cloth binding. Ink inscription to the title page. Henry White (1812-1880) compiled several school histories, and between 1843 and 1853 translated Merle d'Aubigné's "History of the Reformation." In this volume, he provides an overview of history in three parts: the first containing sacred history from Moses to the Christian era, and the history of Greece, Rome and the Eastern Empires; the second comprising of the history of Europe and the East during the Middle Ages; and the third outlining the era of Reformation, with examinations of revolutions in Europe. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with a small loss to the front joint but otherwise with negligible shelf wear. Gilt remains bright to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed.
