Item description from seller

Dover reprint of 1931 original. Studies the hieroglyphs to be found in the three surviving Maya books-the Dresden, Paris, and Madrid codices. As groundwork for deciphering the codices, Gates has tabulated all character variants, which are extraordinarily plentiful, has attempted to work out meanings from their counterparts, and has interrelated these meetings with Maya culture. From the collection of Sanje (Frank) Elliott, Buddhist mentor, artist, and friend to many. Condition notes: [xii], 204 numbered pp plus ads; TPB. Pages: clean, bright, tight, illustrated inner covers; small damp stain to last few pages, edges mildly sunned, a few specs to top edge. Cover: glossy brown wraps, color artwork front, yellow titles front/spine; minimal edge/shelfwear, a few small stains back.
