Analyzes the dangers of current geopolitical disorder, asserting that society is close to repeating the "megadeath" of the twentieth century orchestrated by leaders such as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao
Synopsis: The collapse of communism has brought neither economic stability or social democracy to the former Soviet Union. Nor, for that matter, to the rest of the world. We are living in a time of fragmentation, increasing disunity in Europe, dangerous eruptions in the Islamic republics, and the evils of the "permissive cornucopia" in America which, through overstimulation and self-gratification, has led to the collapse of Western moral and spiritual values. In short, we are living in a climate that is "out of control". It is Zbigniew Brzezinski's firm belief that we are in peril of repeating the "megadeath" of the 20th century, a century in which 187 million people were slaughtered in the name of the "politics of organized insanity", or of the "megamyths" of such dictators as Hitler, Stalin and Mao, among others. Unless we can rediscover our inherent self-restraint, our moral commitment, and a global democratic "interdependence" we stand destined to sacrifice our very survival.
