Small Octavo. 240 pages. French text. A scarce late 19th century novel on the African slave trade. Oroonoko, the eponymous hero, is an African Prince who is captured, enslaved, and transported by an English captain from his home in Kormantse, West Africa, to the English colony of Surinam, South America. OCLC reports copies only in the British Library and the Bibliotheque Nacional. Bound by H. Casterman in ¾ green morocco over marbled paper covered boards, raised bands, spine title and all edges gilt, some toning to leaves, near fine. Seller Inventory # 028770
