Orofacial pain refers to pain perceived in the face and oral cavity, including the teeth, jaws, temporomandibular joints, muscles, and associated structures. It may arise from dental causes (such as pulpitis or abscess), musculoskeletal conditions like temporomandibular disorders (TMD), neuropathic conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, sinus infections, trauma, or systemic diseases. The pain can be acute or chronic and may present as sharp, dull, throbbing, or burning in nature. Proper diagnosis is essential because orofacial pain often has multifactorial causes.
