Sixth Edition, With Additions and Corrections, forty-fifth thousand, and the final 'life-time edition', the first to use the term 'evolution' in its text. Original green cloth with blind rules to front and rear boards, gilt lettering to spine, patterned endpapers. Octavo. pp. xxii, 432, one folding chart. Binding a little rubbed, slight spotting to prelims, partially uncut, a very good copy. Provenance: presentation inscription on prelim from R. J. Wilson to C. E. Byles, the antiquarian and writer, with a quotation from Tennyson's 'In Memoriam': "Move upward, working out the beast, and let the ape and tiger die". Also another owner's signature to ffep (Mulford Martin) and his blind stamp to title page. A book in Very Good condition. Freeman 442.
