Learn the fascinating link between Language and Intelligence and how this allowed man to thrive!
This book explores the captivating World of our beginning. This book starts about 300,000 years ago when the first Homo Sapiens inhabited the World. How did man go from grunting and living in caves or being hunter-gatherers to man today?
Learn how language plays a critical role in the realization of intelligence. Without language, your intelligence would be severely limited. The first primitive man would exist with no or only a very rudimentary language consisting primarily of grunts.
Try conveying a message to someone only using grunts, using no language and no signs depicting words. Try to think without your language. These would be very difficult to achieve.
Not Overnight
Learn how man realized his intelligence through language and how this took over 250,000 years to achieve.
Capacity for Intelligence
There is a difference between capacity for intelligence and realized intelligence, man has always had the same capacity for intelligence, but there was no way for early man to realize his intelligence without a language. Language not only allows man to communicate, but it also allows man to think.
Find out how this newly realized intelligence affects mythology, religion, philosophy, and science. Language and our capacity for intelligence was the precursor for all that we have today.
How important is an advanced language? If an advanced language was never created we would still be hunter-gathers living a primitive life. There would be no building, no cars, no computers, and no science. We would be living as we lived 200,000 years ago.
Mythology
How did language and our intelligence play a role in Greek Mythology, Roman Mythology and others? How and why did they start? Find out why this was an inevitable process.
Human Evolution
Man evolved through evolution, but that was about 300,000 years ago, how did man continue his evolution. How did man realize his capacity for intelligence and why did it take 250,000.
Nature versus Nurture
In this old debate, find out why nature plays a greater role in intelligence than nature.
Religion Matters
Learn how religion evolved at this time and why it played such a strong role in our history. Understand the conflicts it had with science and why. Also where there can be a mutual understanding between the two.
Maxwell Kelly, the author, was brought up as a Roman Catholic, he is not a true believer but he does hold respect for those that are believers and believes that there is a lot of room for overlap between his views and theirs. Indeed, many of his family and friends follow and believe in this and other Religions. He studied science at university and uses his science and background to explore this fascinating topic.
What early readers have said:
