Expected library inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages are mildly tanned and foxed, but text remains clear. Plates are bright. Binding is firm. Deckled edges. Boards have moderate shelf-wear, with noticeable corner bumping and some scuffing to edges. Spine ends are slightly crushed. Gilt remains bright. Moderate rubbing and scuffing overall. This is a 1st edition H/Bk copy of "Origin and History of Ladhope Free Church, Galashiels" by Robert Hall and published under the auspices of the Ladhope Free Church Literary Association in 1895. Issued without dust jacket. The book has 155 pages of text and a five page subscription list and twelve black and white photographic illustrations. The book is bound in dark green cloth with bevelled edges and with the titles on the spine in gold and with the symbol of the Free Church of Scotland on the front board in gold. There is a presentation inscription to the front end paper to the Rev. Alexander Loudon from the author dated 14th August 1895 and a further three signatures, H Whalley, April 1946, M Sanderson, 1946 and John Millar, 1977. There are no other marks or inscriptions in the book which is in very good condition. The pages are rough cut but the top edge is gilded.
