Robert Freeman presents his material in a style that's the model of efficiency, with prose, tables, and conceptual diagrams that get immediately to the point. The author includes a number of handy tips, including the mnemonic ORDR for recollecting the new Oracle8 ROWID format (ORDR, he says, stands for Object number, Relative datafile number, Data block number, and Row number). While it's great to see sample questions at the end of each chapter and answers that appear with explanations of why they're correct, some readers may be annoyed by the fact that the answers are immediately below their questions. You'll have to quiz yourself with a sheet of paper to prevent inadvertent cheating. That's a minor complaint, though.
