Two volumes bound in one. Engraved frontispiece, [8], 924p, [76], [38], 433p, [18], 160p, [6]. Contemporary vellum over boards. Thomas Gataker (1574-1654) was an English theologian and clergyman. The Marcus Aurelius in parallel Greek & Latin text is found in volume 2. Legg 45 remarks that there are two other issues of this edition with slight variations of the title page. Sandys p342 quoting Morhof remarks that the Aurelius is the earliest edition of any classical author published in England with original annotations. Some chips the edges of a few preliminary leaves. Hinges cracked, but holding. New end papers. Spine a little crinkled and general wear to the edges, but otherwise a clean copy. Seller Inventory # 7056
