Build the skills to design, deploy, secure, and operate enterprise OpenShift environments with confidence.
OpenShift provides a powerful platform for running containerized applications on Kubernetes, but becoming effective with it requires more than learning a collection of commands. You need to understand how the platform is designed, how its components interact, how applications are deployed and secured, and how to keep production environments reliable as workloads grow.
OpenShift Mastery provides a practical, architecture-focused path from core concepts to real-world platform operations. It explains the technologies and engineering decisions behind OpenShift so you can develop a deeper understanding of both Kubernetes and the enterprise capabilities built around it.
Inside this book, you will explore how to:
Understand the OpenShift platform - Learn the relationship between containers, Kubernetes, OpenShift architecture, control plane components, worker nodes, APIs, Operators, and declarative resource management.
Design and provision clusters - Understand production architecture, infrastructure requirements, installation approaches, high availability, capacity planning, networking dependencies, and post-installation configuration.
Deploy and manage applications - Work with projects, namespaces, deployments, services, routes, configuration, secrets, resource management, application builds, container images, and deployment strategies.
Secure enterprise workloads - Apply authentication, authorization, RBAC, service accounts, security context controls, network policies, secrets management, and defense-in-depth principles.
Manage networking and storage - Understand application connectivity, ingress traffic, routes, network segmentation, persistent volumes, claims, storage classes, dynamic provisioning, and stateful workloads.
Modernize application delivery - Use Helm, Kustomize, CI/CD concepts, and GitOps practices to create repeatable and controlled application delivery workflows.
Implement observability and scaling - Understand monitoring, metrics, logging, alerting, distributed tracing, autoscaling, scheduling, resource management, high availability, and workload resilience.
Extend and automate OpenShift - Explore Operators, custom resources, automation, APIs, and infrastructure-as-code approaches for managing complex enterprise platforms.
Operate production environments - Develop practical approaches to upgrades, maintenance, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, capacity management, incident investigation, and troubleshooting.
Whether you are building your first OpenShift environment or expanding an existing Kubernetes skill set, this book is designed to help you move beyond basic administration toward a deeper understanding of enterprise platform engineering.
By the end of the book, you will have a stronger foundation for designing OpenShift architectures, deploying containerized applications, implementing security controls, automating operational processes, improving observability, planning for failure, and maintaining reliable production environments.
OpenShift mastery is not about memorizing commands. It is about understanding the platform well enough to make sound technical decisions, troubleshoot complex problems, and operate Kubernetes applications with greater confidence and control.
