The Open Tuning Chord Book for Guitar by guitarist and author Brendan Gallagher is a practical chord reference for players who want to explore the creative possibilities of open D and open G tunings. Designed for guitarists looking to expand their chord vocabulary, improve their understanding of alternative tunings and discover new sounds, this book introduces two of the most widely used open tunings with clear guidance for learning, practice and musical exploration.
Inside, you will find 312 chord shapes covering open D and open G guitar, along with useful advice on tuning and string set-up to help achieve reliable results. The book also includes music scores for four songs that demonstrate open tuning chord shapes in context, plus a glossary of favourite chords and recommended listening that encourages further musical exploration. The material is presented as a useful reference for guitarists who want to experiment with different chord colours, create fresh arrangements and develop new approaches to playing.
Whether you are developing new accompaniment ideas, writing original music or broadening your understanding of alternative guitar tunings, this chord book provides an accessible resource that can be revisited whenever inspiration strikes. The combination of practical chord diagrams, musical examples and setup guidance helps players gain confidence while encouraging experimentation with sounds used across blues, rock, folk and contemporary styles.
It can support individual practice, songwriting, rehearsal preparation or lesson work, offering a convenient way to explore open D and open G guitar approaches. It also makes a thoughtful gift for guitarists interested in alternative tunings and expanding their musical possibilities.
