- Book 5 of 5: The “Revelation & Deception” Series
For centuries, people have been lulled into a false sense of devotion—bowing to rituals, holidays, and images that have no root in God’s Word. Open Your Eyes: The Truth About Man-made Traditions by J.C. Thornton is a wake-up call to those who have unknowingly mixed truth with lies, holiness with paganism, and worship with idolatry. With both boldness and compassion, Thornton tears the mask off practices that countless churches and believers accept as harmless traditions, but which history and Scripture prove to be rooted in heathen customs.
This book takes readers on a journey of exposure and revelation. From the Roman calendar that names months after pagan gods, to holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Christmas, each chapter reveals how ancient fertility rites, sun worship, and idolatrous festivals were disguised and baptized into Christianity. The crucifix and images of Christ are shown for what they are: man-made idols that defy God’s commandment not to make or bow before graven images. Even cherished observances like weddings, funerals, birthdays, and Thanksgiving are peeled back to their origins, revealing rituals of superstition, goddess worship, and the honoring of death rather than the living God.
Drawing from reputable historians like Ronald Hutton, Stephen Nissenbaum, and Bruce David Forbes, Thornton demonstrates that this is not conspiracy, but documented fact. The book balances history with Scripture—each chapter wielding evidence in one hand and the sword of the Spirit in the other. The warning is urgent: what God has called abominable does not become holy just because man renames it “tradition.”
Yet Open Your Eyes is more than exposure; it is a call to repentance and separation. Thornton reminds readers that holiness is not about empty rituals, but obedience to Christ. True worship is not found in man-made days or decorated symbols, but in spirit and in truth. This book convicts the comfortable, challenges the complacent, and encourages the remnant who already stand apart from the world’s customs.
With a voice like a watchman on the wall, Thornton cries out against deception while pointing back to the only infallible authority—the Word of God. Once you read these pages, you cannot unsee what is revealed. You will be forced to choose: continue in the traditions of men, or return to the pure worship of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This is not a book for the faint of heart. It is a trumpet blast in an age of compromise. It is a summons to “come out from among them and be ye separate.” It is an invitation to reject idols, crush false traditions, and live wholly for the God who alone is worthy.
Open your eyes—the truth still speaks.
