Before entering academia, he spent six years as a reporter and editor for newspapers in California and Illinois. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Miami Herald, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Philadelphia Daily News and many other publications. He also has designed many Web sites and portals for university departments, student newspapers and campus organizations.
