Synopsis:
The main objective of present investigation was to study the dissolution pattern of most commercially available formulations of omeprazole in Bangladesh . Omeprazole magnesium is the most common antiulcerant in Bangladesh which are widely prescribed by the physicians for peptic ulcer & GERD. Ten national brands with reference brand of Omeprazole magnesium capsules were studied in stimulated gastric medium (pH 1.2) for first 2 hours and then in simulated intestinal medium (pH 6.8) for next 45 minutes using USP reference dissolution apparatus (Type 1 ) Among most of these locally manufactured Omeprazole brands showed compatible dissolution pattern & release kinetics compared with the reference brand. It was concluded from the study that most of the formulations were equivalent and there was no intra and inter variation between each and every formulation.
About the Author: Mr. Jayanta Kishor Chakrabarty hailing from Comilla, Bangladesh, obtained his M.Pharm degree from Dept. of Pharmaceutical Technology, University of Dhaka. Now he is employed in Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) as a Lecturer. He is interested to build his career in reseach sector.
