Print on Demand. This book delves into the intriguing group of biblical poems known as the Songs of Degrees (Psalms 120-134). The author challenges traditional interpretations and proposes a novel perspective on their origin and significance. By meticulously analyzing the textual clues and historical context, a compelling case is made for connecting these songs to the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah. Examining the life and times of Hezekiah, the author sheds light on the profound impact of events such as the Assyrian invasion and the king's miraculous recovery from illness. The book argues that the Songs of Degrees served as a testament to Hezekiah's unwavering faith and his dedication to restoring and enriching the worship of Jehovah in the Temple. The intricate interplay between history and poetry is explored, revealing how the songs reflect and illuminate the challenges and triumphs of Hezekiah's era. The author's insights not only offer a fresh understanding of these enigmatic poems but also contribute to a broader reevaluation of King Hezekiah's role in shaping the religious and literary landscape of ancient Israel. Ultimately, this book invites readers to reconsider the historical and spiritual significance of the Songs of Degrees, revealing their enduring power to inspire faith and devotion. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

It will be observed that on some points of detail I modify views that were expressed in my earlier volume. The main position there assumed, however, has undergone no change. I have still much to set forth that could not be presented in connexion with the accompanying studies. In the meantime, I venture to think that enough has been said to justify the claim that such lines of research as I have pursued represent an alter native Criticism of the Old Testament from which results of peculiar interest may be expected.
