About this Item
Hand-pulled drypoint etching, "The Mill, Meadowvale." Signed by Beatty in pencil. Thick wove paper. In acid-free archival mat. Pencilled info on mat, plus reference to monograph J.W. Beatty, 1869-1941 (1981, Dorothy M. Farr, Agnes Etherington Art Centre/Queen's University, Kingston ON), which comments on the print. Print: 6.75 x 8.75 in; sheet: 9.5 x 11.25 in; mat: 17.5 x 11.5 in. Near fine example. Some toning. *** Born in Toronto, J.W. Beatty (1869-1941) is best known for his landscapes. Although good friends with members of the Group of Seven, Beatty had no desire to join them. Sharing the same interest in depicting the Canadian wilderness as the Group, his style remained more realist. He taught for years in the Port Hope area, but later joined the teaching staff of the Ontario College of Art from 1912-1941. Seller Inventory # BeattyJW-002
