About this title

Synopsis

What if a name was never just a word?

Across old religions, fairy traditions, witchcraft, demonology, baptismal customs, and folk belief, names were treated as living things. A name could protect a child, summon a spirit, bind a demon, bless the dying, curse an enemy, mark a soul, or keep the dead from being forgotten.

The Old Magic of Names uncovers the ancient belief that names carried force, identity, danger, and destiny.

Inside this book, you will discover:

True names and why they were guarded as keys to the soul
Hidden names used to protect children from spirits, envy, illness, and the evil eye
Fairy names and the old danger of being called, claimed, or stolen away
Demon names in grimoires, exorcisms, seals, and forbidden catalogues
Baptism names and the Christian naming of the soul
Curse names used in ancient maledictions, binding magic, and folk tradition
Holy names, saint names, ancestor names, and names of the dead
The haunting fear of forgotten names, lost records, and erased lives

Written for readers of folklore, occult history, witchcraft, mythology, demonology, Christian folk magic, and dark hidden traditions, this book goes far deeper than ordinary numerology.

A name could open a door.
A name could call the dead.
A name could protect the living.
A name could curse, bless, summon, bind, or survive.

Some names are spoken.

Some names are hidden.

Some names were never meant to be known.
