About this Item

National Trotting Association. Official List of Persons and Horses under Penalty. Hartford, 1905. 107p. Fair stapled paperbound. Reference copy: library discard, with several stamps. Front cover and spine are chipped, torn at edges; cover is almost detached. Back cover is missing. Internally clean, complete. The pages are soundly stapled. ** Lists hundreds of horseman, trotters, and pacers that had been suspended or expelled from harness racing as of March 1, 1905. Each horseman's address is given (town, state). Almost every horse's sex, color, and sire are given. Several Thoroughbred runners are also included. At the end is a list of horse name changes. The rules for suspension and removal of suspension are also printed. No doubt to reassure the racing public, the NTA explains that "nearly all the penalties.are suspensions for non- payment of entrance dues"--nothing more under-handed than that. Can be sent outside the U.S. for less than the default shipping rate. Bookseller Inventory # 14430

Store Description

I¿ve been selling and appraising GOOD HORSE AND ART BOOKS since 1973, first by mail as Blue Rider Books, and since 1983 in the full-time open shop that I share with H.L. Mendelsohn (whose books are also on ABE). We¿d love to have you visit the second-oldest secondhand bookshop in Cambridge, just outside Harvard Square (open Tuesday-Saturday noon to 6, or by appointment). If you can¿t make it, go to for many (but by no means all) of my books. My inventory of new, used, and rare equestrian books is one of the largest in the U.S., with special depth in Paul Brown, 19th-century books, dressage, and ephemera (paper items). I love to seek out the obscure, the uncommon, and the overlooked. Harvey Mendelsohn and I also offer a room full of out-of-print scholarly titles on the fine and applied arts, especially art history, architecture and planning, book arts, gardens, 20th-century ceramics, photography, and exhibition catalogues. And you¿ll also find some children¿s books, cookbooks, titles in cultural history and philosophy, and other general books. Many of our books never make it online, so if you¿re looking for items you don¿t see here, please phone or e-mail. Then maybe you, too, like hundreds of happy customers over the years, will say, ¿You have it? YOU¿VE MADE MY DAY!¿
