About the Authors
Tina brings over 40 years of experience across the automotive, logistics, and service industries, having worked in both South Africa and Australia. Her career has included leadership roles such as Managing Director, Financial Director, and CEO, where she focused on building strong teams, improving operations, and supporting customer needs. Before relocating to Australia, Tina was actively involved in business and community life in South Africa. She served as President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, participated in local politics, and contributed to various community projects. Her work was acknowledged through nominations for business leadership awards, reflecting her commitment to service and development. In her current role, Tina supports new employees across the South East Asia Pacific region, helping them transition smoothly into their roles. Her background includes experience in customer service, financial reporting, project management, and workplace safety. In recent times, Tina has also embraced a creative path as a children's author. Inspired by her life experiences, her family's passion for off-road racing, and her understanding of people. She writes stories that aim to entertain, inspire, and support emotional growth in young readers. She addresses social issues that children face daily and hopes to inspire them to find their place in the world. Tina is known for her practical approach, adaptability, and dedication to making a positive difference-whether in the workplace, the community, or through storytelling.
Vanessa Fernandes is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Perth, Western Australia. Vanessa was born a creative soul and her fascination with drawing and art began when she was only old enough to scribble. As a child she loved nothing more than having a pen and paper to keep herself entertained for hours. 40 years (or more) later, nothing has changed except now she scribbles her days away on an I-Pad and a computer. Vanessa began her formal training as a graphic designer fresh out of high school, and 20years later she has enjoyed roles in advertising, promotional marketing, signage, clothing design, and the dreamy world of children's book illustrations.
Sarah van Heerden is an experienced editor, writer and humanitarian storyteller with more than 16 years in the nonprofit and media sectors. She is the long-standing Editor-in-Chief of Rotary Africa, a regional magazine affiliated with Rotary International. She has edited and published nearly 200 magazines and books. Her editorial work is guided by a deep belief in ethical storytelling that respects dignity, amplifies underrepresented voices, and celebrates real-world solutions. Sarah has worked across Africa and beyond, curating stories that connect global audiences to the people and communities driving positive change.In addition to her editorial career, Sarah is the CEO and Co-Founder of The Unity Water Foundation, a South African nonprofit focused on water access, women's advancement, and youth development. She also leads Unity Media, a social enterprise that combines storytelling with impact-driven fundraising. Whether she's editing a children's book, helping communities document their water struggles through digital mapping, or developing partnerships to deliver water solutions like the Hippo Roller, Sarah's work reflects a lifelong commitment to equity, creativity, and purposeful communication.
