Henri Beyle, n� le 23 janvier 1783 � Grenoble et mort le 23 mars 1842 � Paris, connu plus connu sous le nom de Stendhal, est un �crivain fran�ais du XIXe si�cle. D�s 1827, � quarante-quatre ans, il �crit avec Armance, mal re�u par la critique; puis il �crit Le Rouge et le Noir, et acquiert une notori�t�.Il est nomm� consul � Civitavecchia par le gouvernement de Juillet. Stendhal n'arr�te pas d'�crire: il produit des autobiographies et des romans qu'il ne finit pas. Il �crit notamment La Chartreuse de Parme. Il meurt � Paris d'une crise cardiaque en pleine rue le 23 mars 1842.
