Item description from seller

1898. Reprint. xxvii, 434pp., a black and white frontispiece and a 30-page catalogue at the end of the book. Pindar (c518 BC-c438 BC) was an Ancient Greek lyric poet from Thebes. This collection of translations of his odes into English prose is divided into his Olympic Odes, Pythian Odes, Nemean Odes, and Isthmian Odes. The translator is Dawson William Turner (1815-1885), and adjoined is a metrical version by Abraham Moore (1766–1822). The book is bound in the original dark blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a blind-stamped publisher's emblem on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and a little light staining on the boards. The spine ends are lightly bumped and there is a small dent on the top and fore edges of the rear board. The contents are tight and clean with some browning to the endpapers and a name has been written in pencil on the front free endpaper.
