The Odes of Pindar with Introduction and English Translation by Sir John Sandys The Loeb Classical Library London: William Heinemann, 1927. Early Loeb Classical Library edition featuring the complete extant Odes of Pindar in Greek, presented with parallel English translation and scholarly introduction by Sir John Sandys. Printed in the familiar Loeb format with original facing-text layout, critical notes, and brief explanatory commentary typical of the series’ early classical volumes. A sound and well-preserved 1927 copy, with firm, square boards and spine. Minor shelf wear and light rubbing to spine ends, but gilt titling remains clear and legible. Binding tight with strong internal hinges; pages clean, bright, and uniformly well-kept. Light pencilled inscription/notation to preliminary pages, consistent with careful academic use, and otherwise unmarked throughout. No foxing, staining, or structural weakness noted. A solid and attractive example of the early Heinemann Loeb issue of Pindar, notable for its scholarly apparatus, respected translator, and the enduring importance of Pindar’s odes in the study of Greek lyric poetry. Increasingly uncommon in this condition for copies approaching a century in age.…
