About the Author
Maxine Clair is the author of Rattlebone, a collection of short stories, which won the Chicago Tribunes Heartland Prize for fiction; a collection of poems, Coping With Gravity; and a fiction chapbook, October Brown, which won Baltimores Artscape Prize. Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, she worked for many years as chief medical technologist at the Childrens Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She is now an associate professor of English at George Washington University and lives in Maryland.
