It’s an exciting day for one special class when legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle helps them dive into the brilliant biodiversity of the ocean―teaching them about the harmony of life and inspiring simple actions to protect our precious blue planet.
Did you know the ocean has superheroes? One curious student discovers just that when Dr. Sylvia Earle visits her class. From microscopic phytoplankton that feed whales and help produce the air we breathe, to oysters that filter pollution and protect shorelines―millions of ocean creatures play the role of real-life superheroes. On a fun trip to the beach, she learns that even kids can make a difference―whether it’s by wearing reef-safe sunscreen or picking up trash.
Debut author Gabrielle Raymond McGee’s work empowering kids through STEM education shines through in this first book in the Wavemakers series―a collection dedicated to those making waves in the world while inspiring the next generation. With colorful illustrations, fascinating sea life, and a relatable young narrator, Ocean Superheroes will captivate even reluctant readers with its uplifting message: every living thing is connected, and small actions matter.
Complete with a glossary of terms and accessible resources for kids, parents, and educators, this book is a must-have for ocean lovers and changemakers everywhere.
