From the Author
This is the first book to look at developments on the British art scene which go beyond the most-hyped work--that of Damien Hirst and his generation. Serious and perhaps more long-lasting changes such as the rise in artist-run exhibition spaces, collaboration, time-based work or art that relates closely to a particular environ are examined. We have essays from artists, critics and curators including pieces on feminism and the new art, art and the Internet, the conditions in which artists have to make work (this is the title essay 'Occupational Hazard'), and art and its audience. The book is illustrated throughout with work drawn from artist-led organisations.
