A nice copy of the 1919 first Rider edition of Louis Jacolliot's exploration of Indian mysticism, arguing that Western esoteric traditions originated in India. A French judge in the 1860s, Jacolliot details encounters with fakirs demonstrating yogic powers (siddhis) and discusses the "Doctrine of the Pitris" (spirits). Pages are very good: clean and only the most minor age wear, a little browning to FEPs only and a previous owner inscription which has largely faded (see photos). Binding and spine very good. Red boards are clean and square with just a little corner crumpling and a little mottled whitening to very top left corner of front board. Gilt lettering on spine is good and clear. A very nice copy. Please see photos, all of which are the copy for sale, we don't use stock photos. More photos available, please just ask.
