The Observer?s Book of Weather ? 1955 Edition (hardback, no dust-jacket) ? is a compact gem from the classic Observer?s series, penned by renowned meteorologist Reginald M. Lester. This vintage pocket guide brings to life the fascinating world of weather, covering everything from storms and fog to dew, frost, and other atmospheric phenomena ? all in a concise, easy-to-read format that?s rooted in mid-century natural-history charm.
Inside its modest blue cloth cover you?ll find 151 pages of clear, engaging text and illustrations: crisp black-and-white line drawings and occasional colour plates that help readers visualise cloud types, precipitation patterns, sky conditions, and more. The small format makes it perfect for field use or casual reading ? great to slip into a jacket or rucksack for countryside walks, field trips, or amateur weather-watching.
This 1955 first edition captures a snapshot of how weather was understood in post-war Britain, offering practical insights for enthusiasts, students or collectors. While it lacks its original dust-jacket, the solid cloth binding and compact size keep it highly suitable for display, reference or leisurely browsing. Its vintage look ? slightly faded spine, gently handled boards, minimal wear ? adds to the nostalgic appeal for collectors of classic Observer titles.
Whether you?re a weather-buff, a lover of vintage books, or looking to start a collection of Observer series classics, this edition offers real old-school character and reliability. A lovely addition to a home library, a perfect gift for nature lovers, or a great entry point for those curious about meteorology in mid-20th-century Britain.
