The author, an experienced scientist, meticulously records his excursions to the mountain, describing the challenges and precautions necessary for a successful ascent. He provides an overview of its surrounding environment, including notable landmarks and the climate, and discusses the history of previous ascents. The book also includes the author's observations on the volcano's geological formation, its lava streams, and the volcanic sand and pumice that coat its slopes.
