No stated date c. early 1820s? 16pp. This is a 16 page pamphlet that has previously been bound in a larger volume, presumably containing similar material. No date or publisher is given but it appears to be from the early 19th century and provides a brief account of religion and literature in the early part of that century. The author may be Sir John Bowring (1792-1872). In 1811 he entered the service of a firm of Lisbon merchants, who sent him to the Peninsula, and he later started in business on his own account. In 1819-20, he visited Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Russia, and Sweden, and on his return published his 'Specimens of the Russian Poets'.
