FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 4.75 x 7.5 inches. [viii] + 291 + [3] pp. In original paper wrappers with pictorial front wrapper and publisher's advertisements on rear. Many pages uncut. A little wear to extremities but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 44 whole page and vignette engravings in text by the author. A charming account of a journey to the near east, including Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey, written in diary format, made by a young artist in 1886-87 and illustrated by himself. George Rodier (1864-1913) was an artist who later became a professor of philosophy at the Sorbonne and published on Greek philosophy.
