Add to basketEN QUE SE PERSUADE, QUE ES MENOR MAL SUFRIR RATONES, QUE TENER GATOS, EN NUESTRAS CASAS. Compuesta por D. Damian Maron Y Ram. MADRID. MDCCLXXIX [1779]. Por D. Joachin Ibarra, Impresor de Cámara de S.M. Con las licencias necesarias. In 4º de 20x15 cm. In quarto. 20x15 cm. xxi pp. Paperback, needs to be bound. Very rare work not mentioned by Palau. 1st edition having the 2nd edition been published in 1816. Both were published with the anagram of the name of its author Mariano Madramany y Calatayud, probably for its light and humorous character. In the same year 1779 he published an oration in defence of cats. Madramany treats a negligible subject with great erudition, listing all the writers who have treated unimportant subjects in an elevated way, summoning from the writers of antiquity such as Ovid and Virgil to the great Spanish writer Lope de Vega, and treats this banal subject as if it were a work of philosophy or law, defending with great wealth of arguments the rats and citing a great number of authorities. Mariano Madramany y Calatayud (L"Alcúdia, la Ribera, 1746 - Mallorca c. 1822) was a Valencian scholar, author of some twenty works of diverse subjects that present as a common denominator his strong humanist-based enlightened impression. With a doctorate in law (1768), he was professor of the temporary chair of Civil Law at the University of Valencia between 1773 and 1774. He held various positions as a lawyer in the service of the Crown for a short period of time. He was ordained a priest and obtained the benefice of the parish of San Bartolomé in Valencia in 1807. In 1815 he was appointed Secretary of the Inquisition of Valencia, and between 1817 and 1819 he served as Procurator of the Inquisition of Majorca. His contribution to the humanist field, represented mainly by the Tratado de la elocución and the Ethicorum Libri III, a didactic poem of Christian morals in Latin, has gone rather unnoticed until recently. In the legal field, on the other hand, he is recognised as an authority on the Valencian municipal regime thanks to his Tratado de la nobleza de la Corona de Aragón (Valencia.
