Hardback. Before the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia (Sitting as a Criminal Court,) Monday, July 3, 1865. Burroughs was, by any standards, a cad who tried to entice his fiancee to a house of assignation for the purpose of compromising her and thus breaking off the engagement. He then married another, and Miss Harris followed him to Washington and shot him in a corridor of the Treasury Building. Burroughs' brother was the president of the University of Chicago, and he took an active part in the prosecution of the case. Mrs. Abraham Lincoln sent flowers to Miss Harris while in jail. She was acquitted. 181pp. 8vo. h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. With modern binding. F. (McDade 445).
