A thoughtful picture book featuring Nutmeg, the red squirrel who stars in the ever-popular Nutmeg Gets Adopted.
Now Nutmeg has been adopted, this story explores some of the issues that adopted or fostered children may have, or may come into contact with, in school. As with the other books in the "Nutmeg" series, this book offers social workers, adoptive parents and foster carers a practical way to help children explore their feelings about their circumstances and situations.
In this story, Nutmeg is enjoying school but the arrival of another squirrel, Chilli, who lives with a foster family, causes conflict between the two of them. Bullying and fighting get both children into trouble. But with the help of his parents, teachers and schoolmates, Nutmeg and Chilli learn to understand each other and help get past their difficult feelings and behaviour. Guidelines which accompany the book help parents, carers, social workers and school staff to get the most out of the story and to explore the often complex issues surrounding settling in at school and establishing relationships with other children. Perfect for children aged 4-10.
