The author has carefully compared Pliny's writings with source material from earlier authors, including Aristotle, Theophrastus, and Dioscorides, to illuminate passages that have long puzzled readers. The book provides a deeper understanding of Pliny's methods and sources, shedding light on the development of scientific thought in the ancient world. The book also includes a discussion of the textual transmission of Pliny's work, examining the various manuscripts and editions that have been produced over the centuries. Through this meticulous analysis, the author offers valuable insights into the complexities of Pliny's text and its enduring legacy in the history of science. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
