What if learning about AI felt like an adventure instead of a lesson?
Meet Nova, a curious ten-year-old inventor, and Bit, a tiny spark of learning code who tumbles out of an old computer during a thunderstorm. Together, they travel through twelve extraordinary Realms, each revealing something important about the technology shaping the world around today's children.
At its heart, this is a journey about becoming a smarter, more thoughtful human and ready to understand, question, and navigate a world shaped by increasingly powerful technology.
JOURNEY THROUGH ALL 12 REALMS1. THE GLITCH IN THE GARAGE - Discover what AI really is and why understanding it matters.
2. THE PATTERN FOREST - Learn how AI learns from data, recognizes patterns, and makes predictions.
3. THE MIRROR MAZE - Discover deepfakes and why seeing something doesn't always mean believing it.
4. THE BIAS BOG - Understand how training data can create bias and why variety matters.
5. THE PRIVACY PALACE - Learn about digital privacy, personal information, and your digital footprint.
6. RECOMMENDATION RIVER - Discover how recommendation algorithms work and how filter bubbles can narrow what you see.
7. THE KINDNESS CROSSROADS - Explore online kindness, empathy, and noticing who might be left out.
8. THE SCREEN-TIME SUNDIAL - Learn how to stay in control of your attention instead of letting technology control it.
9. THE TRUST BRIDGE - Build media literacy by learning to check where information comes from before believing or sharing it.
10. THE CREATIVITY WORKSHOP - Discover what AI can create and what human imagination, experience, and meaning bring that machines cannot replace.
11. THE ETHICS OBSERVATORY - Learn to ask the bigger question: not just "Can we?" but "Should we?"
12. HOME - Bring everything together into your own toolkit for thinking wisely about AI and the digital world.
MORE THAN A STORYEvery Realm turns a complicated idea into something children can see, understand, question, and remember. Along the way, readers encounter real-world questions about information, privacy, algorithms, attention, creativity, fairness, and responsible technology use.
And the learning doesn't stop when the story ends.
Inside, children also get:
- A plain-language guide to how AI actually works
- A Field Guide to all 12 Realms
- 12 real-world missions to try without a portal
- Family discussion questions
- A glossary of essential AI & digital terms
- A creative "Build Your Own Realm" activity
- A Certificate of Completion
A GIFT THAT GIVES CHILDREN SOMETHING TO KEEP
Looking for a meaningful gift for a curious child?
NOVA & BIT is a wonderful choice for birthdays, holidays, milestones, classroom libraries, home libraries, and children who are beginning to ask bigger questions about technology and the world around them.
It's the kind of book a child can read for the adventure, return to for the ideas, and keep on the shelf as a reference for growing up in a digital world.
No prior knowledge of AI is required. Nova didn't know everything when the journey began. Neither does Bit.
And neither does the reader.
Because the goal isn't to know everything.
It's to learn how to question, notice, think, create, care—and make wiser choices when the answers aren't so simple.
Twelve Realms. One unforgettable journey. A toolkit for the world beyond the last page.
