No stated date c1872. Sixth edition, revised, corrected, and enlarged, with appendix. xv, 239pp., 8 colour plates, 2 woodcuts, and 1 folding plan. Robert Thomas Vyner (1804-1879) was Master of the North Warwickshire and the Holderness Hounds. He writes in his dedication: " In these degenerate days, when so called improvements in our social system, and in the state and appearance of the country, have well-nigh put a stop to our sports and pleasures in the fields, it may seem ill timed to bring forward a work on a subject which appears to be fast declining in general estimation. I am aware that it is so, but, being a devoted admirer of all connected with field sports, I have endeavoured to rescue the science from oblivion, by giving in the following pages my experience in the chase, hoping that my labours may contribute to the pleasure and instruction of those true English hearts who still love that noblest of British pastimes - Fox-hunting." The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling and illustrations on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards. The cloth on the corner tips is worn with a little damage and loss on the top corners. The spine is slightly faded and the spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth. The contents are tight and clean with foxing to the back of the free endpapers and the first and last few pages, including the title-page. There is a little scattered light foxing elsewhere within the book and slightly heavier foxing on the pages adjacent to the folding plan and pages 128 and 129. There is a small circular blind-stamped bookseller's seal near the top corner of the front free endpaper but no inscription. Seller Inventory # gHunting02
