L'opinion la plus généralement admise et, en réalité, la plus rationnelle, est que cette ville dut sa fondation à une station militaire, à un castrum stativum, tel que les Romains en établissaient, avec des troupes à demeure, dans les pays nouvellement conquis. Or, la certitude existe que des légions, ou plutôt des fractions de légions, cantonnèrent dans une castramétation entourée de murailles et dont les eaux de la rivière Bouzaise remplissaient les fossés. Le fait est connu que des légionnaires romains, en résidence dans une contrée, y créèrent assez fréquemment des bourgades. Ici, le séjour de la légion Minervienne aurait fait donner à l'assemblage des habitations construites tant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur des murs du camp le nom de Minervie, et l'examen d'un bon nombre de débris de monuments lapidaires, ayant échappé à la destruction, démontre clairement qu'assez peu de temps après la conquête Beaune ne se réduisait déjà plus à une petite réunion de chaumières.
Mais y a-t-il des ruines qui signalent l'existence d'une bourgade celtique ou gauloise ou s'est élevée la ville do Beaune ? La découverte de foyers, d'instruments en silex et de monnaies gauloises en bronze a été le résultat unique de longues et patientes recherches. Quant à des ruines, on sait que les Celtes n'avaient pas ou fort peu d'édifices en pierres. Au témoignage de Strabon, Vitruve et Jules César, des tentes, des cabanes faites de bois et de boue, servaient seulement d'abris à cette nation nomade et guerrière.
La désignation de Minervie parait s'être maintenue durant deux ou trois siècles. Dès le Ve, Beaune se nommait, ainsi que l'attestent les Capitulaires de Baluze, Belna, Belno Castrum, et la région environnante Belnisium, Belnisus et Pagus Belnensis. L'étymologie de Belna vient vraisemblablement de Belisana, surnom donné à Minerve dans quelques endroits de la Gaule. D'après cette explication, Beaune aurait conservé son nom antique et primitif.
Une si belle et si salubre contrée, une situation aussi avantageuse, la présence de deux magnifiques sources, l'Aigue et la Bouzaise, le voisinage de la grande voie d'Autun à Besançon n'avaient pu manquer d'attirer un imposant concours d'habitants. L'enceinte fortifiée du Castrum ne suffit bientôt plus à leurs besoins ; aussi, pendant la durée de la domination romaine, le territoire de Beaune se couvrit-il de fermes et de villas dont les substructions se retrouvent encore sur des points nombreux.
C'est sur cette riante région que vinrent fondre les énergiques tribus des hommes du Nord et, parmi eux, les Burgondes qui la ravirent aux conquérants des Gaules. Dès les premières années du VIe siècle, une nouvelle invasion surgit ; Clovis, chef de

Right of withdrawal

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to GreatBookPricesUK, Castle Donington, Derby, United Kingdom, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
