Spangler was a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and regularly lectured on the subject of thermodynamics. Notes on Thermodynamics thus originated as a collection of information that Spangler prepared for distribution to his students. The purpose of the book is to more rapidly educate students on the theoretical aspect of thermodynamics than could be done using existing textbooks. This is a brief work, and one that does not waste any space. Spangler has packed the book with mathematical formulas and equations used to demonstrate various principals of thermodynamics. The title is divided into sections which each highlight a specific aspect of the topic.
Notes on Thermodynamics is a title that will appeal to those actively involved in the study of the subject matter. It is a highly technical work, and not one accessible for those without a background in math and science. This is not an introductory text, but rather one intended to complement a rigorous course of study.
Notes on Thermodynamics is a dense eighty-four page book clearly aimed at the engineer or scientist. For those involved in the in-depth study of thermodynamics, Spangler's work here is of tremendous benefit. It is a concise and comprehensive overview of the topic and one that can serve as the perfect study guide for students.
